John A. Logan College is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in the American Sign Language (ASL) Deaf Studies program to begin fall 2018.
Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May) and are required to teach a minimum of 15 credit hours and serve eight office hours per week for student consultation in fall and spring semesters. Additional teaching opportunities with compensation may be available in the summer semester.
The candidate will teach a wide variety of lecture and/or laboratory courses within the ASL Deaf Studies program. Other duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: coordinate and supervise deaf community tutors, serve as club advisor or co-advisor for the ASL Club; accompany students on a tour of the Illinois School for the Deaf and other club culture trips; maintain program laboratories and equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition; maintain program lab to minimize loss, theft, or breakage of equipment.
Instructional responsibilities also include: course development, updating and submission of course syllabi in required format, assessment of student outcomes, conducting program review, development of resources for instruction, including those for online learning, and timely submission of student grades and progress. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to post and maintain office hours, recruit students to the program, participate fully in departmental duties, institutional committees, and activities as assigned. The candidate is also expected to represent the College credibly with respect to any of its activities, and observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the College.
Require's a Master’s degree in Deaf Studies, ASL Pedagogy, ASL Linguistics or related field, fluency in ASL, and three years’ teaching experience in a post-secondary setting. Native deaf signer; more than three years of teaching experience in a post-secondary setting; proficiency in the use of instructional technology is preferred.Salary
The College is affiliated with NEA/IEA. Starting salary is determined by educational level and teaching experience per contract salary schedule, and opportunities exist for overload and summer teaching.Benefits
