John A. Logan College is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in the Construction Management Technology program to begin fall 2017.

Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May) and are required to teach a minimum of 15 credit hours and serve eight office hours per week for student consultation in fall and spring semesters. Additional teaching opportunities with compensation may be available in the summer semester. 

This position will teach a wide variety of lecture and/or laboratory courses within the Construction Management Technology program. Expertise in the following areas will be necessary: building layout, wood framing, estimating, soil science, concrete and concrete testing, exterior and interior finish systems, commercial construction, civil construction, green and renewable building methods and materials, scheduling, construction business management, mechanical systems, construction administration, land development, and statics and strengths of materials. Other duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: serve as club advisor for the National Association of Home Builders student chapter; serve as academic advisor for the Constructional Management Technology program; work directly with local Habitat for Humanity Chapters to construct homes in the College’s lab courses and on-site; regularly meet with the Construction Management Advisory Committee; participate in campus activities such as an annual Discovery Day, student tours, and judging in a regional FFA competition held on campus; maintain the laboratories and program equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition; maintain tools and supplies in the lab to minimize loss, theft, or breakage of equipment; and instruct all students in appropriate safety rules and safe work procedures; and enforce all safety rules in the lab.

Instructional responsibilities also include:  course development, updating and submission of course syllabi in required format, assessment of student outcomes, conducting program review, development of resources for instruction, including those for online learning, and timely submission of student grades and progress.  Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to post and maintain office hours, recruit students to the program, participate fully in departmental duties, institutional committees, and activities as assigned.  The candidate is also expected to represent the College credibly with respect to any of its activities, and observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the College. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Industrial Education, Technical Resource Management, or a closely related field.  A master of science in Construction Management, Education, or a closely related field is preferred.

Experience Requirements:  Three years of field supervision or management experience within the construction industry, and two years of field experience. Preferred experience includes five years of experience in field supervision or construction management and five years of field experience. Teaching experience and an OSHA 30 hour safety certification is also preferred.

Salary

Starting salary is determined by educational level and teaching experience as per contract salary schedule, and opportunities exist for overload and summer teaching.
