Full-Time; Non-Teaching Professional; Grade 7

This position is expected to be able to provide assistance to the grounds staff when necessary for proper and timely execution of the urgent work; assist the Director of Buildings and Grounds in planning for repair and replacement of equipment used in maintaining exterior spaces and athletic fields; place all orders of supplies and equipment needed for the grounds department and maintain such inventory; develop a grounds maintenance and development plan with budget to be approved by the Director of Buildings and Grounds and submitted to the VP for Business Services and College Facilities by February 28th on an annual basis (such plan shall include off-campus locations); supervise the maintenance of all campus roads, parking areas, walks, and patios; supervise the maintenance of all exterior campus property, including but not limited to campus ponds, prairies, forests, athletic fields, and lawns; must maintain a chemical applicators license and supervise the application of all chemicals used for grounds maintenance; work with athletic staff for care of the athletic fields and preparation for competitions; recommend for employment, supervise, and evaluate on a routine basis those personnel assigned to report directly to the position; ensure compliance with any and all facility codes required by local, state, and federal ordinances or legislation (this includes all fire safety regulations); coordinate all safety training for staff assigned and ensure all OSHA regulations are followed; coordinate the inclement weather response, working with facility management to ensure adequate staff are assigned (involve the campus police department); work with the Director of Facility Services for the scheduling of outside events and supervise the setup and tear down of special events held outdoors; coordinate the campus and extension center insect control programs; be responsible for Nuisance Wildlife Removal permits and removal of nuisance wildlife when required; maintain all Grounds Department equipment and vehicles; supervise and coordinate the cleaning of the building exteriors; maintain accuracy of exterior wayfinding signage; work with campus police to plan the grounds to maintain a safe environment for our students; evaluate and monitor department staff members to determine whether risk management concerns are present, and if so, make recommendations to mitigate; must have a valid Illinois driver’s license; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Require's a Bachelor’s degree; must have chemical applicators license within 6 months of employment; three years of supervisory experience in the area of grounds maintenance.  Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, landscape architecture, agriculture, or related field; experience in turf management and athletic field maintenance is preferred. 

Salary

$53,385 - $66,731 (salary commensurate with education and experience per salary schedule)
