Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan delivered the keynote address at the Southern Illinois Drug Awareness Conference on Thursday, April 17 at Noon in the John A. Logan College Conference Center. Madigan also spoke to the press prior to the luncheon at an 11:45 press conference in the Les McCollum Room adjacent to the Conference Center.

Madigan praised event organizers for their hard work.

“This is their eleventh year and as I understand it the event was completely full with over 450 participants signed up within a couple of hours of the announced date.  Michelle (Hamilton) has done so much through this event to raise awareness not only for meth, but also for the prescription drug problem that is truly an epidemic in our country,” said Madigan.

According to event Hamilton, this year’s event was more comprehensive than previous conferences.

“This was our 11th annual conference and this year we took a little different approach.  We have dropped ‘meth’ from the name and targeted any and all of the illicit drugs being abused in our region.   The mission was still the same, but we wanted to focus more on the issues our community has been facing, and the resources that we have to help combat these issues,” said Hamilton.
