VINCENNES, IND. - Sophomore post player Jordan Martin knocked down 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Friday to lead the John A. Logan College men's basketball team past Kankakee, 74-64, in opening-round tournament play at Vincennes.

Leading scorer for the Volunteers (5-1) was Martavian Payne with 14 points. Devontavius Payne contributed 12 and Connor Wheeler added 11. Lamont Walker chipped in eight, including a pair of 3-pointers. Tamas Bruce flipped in seven. Ranell Crossland netted five.

"I was proud of the fact that we came out and played hard against a pretty good team," said Logan head coach Kyle Smithpeters. "When you face a good team, you have to battle against whatever is thrown at you. I thought we did an especially good job on the glass tonight and valued the basketball. Anytime you get a win on the road, it's a good night."

The Vols led 43-29 at the half. Logan returns to the hardwood at 4 p.m. today against St. Clair County, Mich., a 96-42 loser to Vincennes Friday.
