OLNEY - The John A. Logan College women's basketball team led by as many as 10 points in the second half, but could not hang on as host Olney rallied for an 84-82 Great Rivers Athletic Conference victory.

The Volunteers fall to 2-2 in the league and 5-4 overall. The Lady Knights improve to 2-1 and 3-7.

Logan dominated the boards, outrebounding Olney, 47-to-25. But some missed free throws early and second-half turnovers negated that advantage.

JALC was led in scoring by sophomore Sarah Bailey's 25 points, a career high. Alison Webb followed with 15. Kalai Trice drained four triples and finished with 12 points. Shelby Beussink added 11.

Logan led 40-31 at the half. The Knights put 53 points on the board over the final 20 minutes.

"It's a very frustrating loss," said Vols head coach Marty Hawkins. "We had a couple of shots to tie the game from point-blank range in the last few seconds, but couldn't get the shots down. We're now 2-2 in the league and we could easily be 4-0 against the four best teams from last year. It's our mistakes that's costing us."

Logan returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Wabash Valley.
