MATTOON - The John A. Logan College women's basketball team dropped its sixth straight game Saturday, falling at Lake Land, 58-52.

Logan is now 2-5 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and 5-9 overall. The Lakers improve to 4-2 in the league and 11-6 overall.

The Vols lost despite outscoring the Lakers 31-to-27 in the second half. In fact, Logan trimmed an 18-point deficit to four, but could not get any closer.

Sophomore Sarah Bailey paced the JALC offense with 13 points. Kalai Trice (three triples), Alison Webb and Hailee Lampley totaled nine each. Shelby Beussink and Abbi Denton notched five apiece.

"We played a lot better defensively tonight against a team that is very difficult to guard with all the offensive sets they run," said Vols head coach Marty Hawkins. "Our problem was that we didn't adapt well to the zone in the first half and dug ourselves too deep a hole. In the second half, we got much better looks at the basket."

Logan plays a 5:30 p.m. game at Lincoln Trail College in Robinson Wednesday.
