Bowling outing raises money for athletics

CARTERVILLE – Twenty team with five players each turned out to compete at a bowling tournament fundraiser for John A. Logan College Athletics Sunday at the SI Bowl.
For a participation fee of $50, players were treated to three games of Nine-Pin bowling, free beverages and a dinner catered by 17th Street Bar and Grill.
The winning team was Skystar Residential sponsored by Randy Duncan. Team members consisted of Matt Witt of Herrin, Cody Jurgens of Carterville, Eric Melvin of Herrin, Martin Grant of Hurst and Michael Reeves of Marion.
Awarded a plaque for “Best Individual Game” for women was Pat Robbins with a 241. Awarded a plaque for “Best Individual Series” for women was Brenda Walker at 635. Tops among the men were Melvin (Best Game) with a perfect 300 and Gino Riscossa (Best Series) at 772.
“I thought it was a fine turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves,” said JALC Athletic Director Jerry Halstead. “Every dollar we get through fundraisers such as these help our athletic program out in a variety of ways. We especially would like to thank the good folks at SI Bowl for hosting the event again this year; Koerner Distributing for providing adult beverages; and 17th Street for serving the meal.
