CARTERVILLE – John A. Logan College students majoring in business and competing as a team at the 17th Annual Accounting Challenge hosted by Southern Illinois University took away top honors last week. More than 330 students from 26 different high schools and community colleges competed in the event.
According to accounting professor Lora Hines, students were tested on their knowledge and understanding of financial and managerial accounting.
JALC’s Lisa Norman of West Frankfort placed second overall and Madison Runge of Murphysboro finished third. For their efforts, both were awarded scholarships by the SIUC College of Business.
The other members of Logan’s team included Ja'Mia Purdiman and Amanda Ranchino both from Herrin.
Hines was pleased with the students’ performance.
“The students enjoyed the competition very much, and I’m not surprised they won,” Hines said. “They are all outstanding students and did a great job representing John A. Logan.”
