ULLIN – The John A. Logan College softball team turned the tables on Shawnee Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from the Saints in Region 24 play, 6-0 and 11-6 in 10 innings.

With the pair of victories, Logan improves its overall record to 13-14. Earlier this spring, the Vols dropped two home games to the Saints.

Sophomore outfielders Maddie Craig (Murphysboro) and Kelsey Robinson (Du Quoin) led the offensive charge for Logan.

Craig finished with seven hits in nine at bats in the twin bill with four runs scored, all in the second game. Robinson went 4-for-10 with two homers and six runs batted in. Freshman Kelsey Rogers followed up with four hits in seven at bats and drove in five runs. Jen Bailey connected for four hits. Kiley Pelker added three. Katrina Whitley, Kaylyn Winders and Amanda Evinger also contributed a hit to the attack.

Sophomore righthander Jolyn Lake pitched a complete-game shutout in the opener. She scattered seven hits, struck out five and walked one.

In Game 2, the game was tied 6-6 in extra innings when the Vols broke the game open in the 10th with five runs aided by three Shawnee errors.

Bailey was winning pitcher. She went all 10 frames, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits, struck out three and walked two.

Craig’s five hits for one game was a personal best.

“It was a great day offensively, especially for Craig and Robinson,” said Vols head coach Bruce Jilek. “And it was good to see our pitching hold Shawnee in check most of the day. We have a lot of games to play the next few days due to all the rainouts, and we’re far from healthy, but we’re just going to have to gut it out. Today, was a good team effort.”

Logan travels to Olney today for an afternoon doubleheader.
