INA – The John A. Logan College men’s golf team placed third Monday at the seven-team Rend Lake spring invitational.

The Volunteers shot a 36-hole combined score of 604 (295 on Sunday followed up with a subpar 309 on Monday). The host Warriors won the meet (577) with Vincennes (593) finishing second.

Schools finishing behind the Vols were: Lincoln, Lincoln Trail, Kaskaskia, and Mineral Area.

Top individual player for the Vols was freshman Kody Rendleman of Murphysboro, who had a combined score of 145 (74 on Sunday and 71 on Monday) to place fifth overall.

Freshman Austin Grote of Hoyleton finished at 150 (73, 77). Freshman Neal Northcott turned in a 153 (74, 79) and freshman Daniel Corcho carded a 163 (82, 82).

Sophomore Christian Seaton had a solid opening-round score of 74 on Sunday, but a back injury sidelined him Monday. Corcho also suffered a wrist injury, but finished tournament play.

Vols head coach Tom Ferris said his team has played better.

“We’ve been kind of an up-and-down team so far this spring, but it didn’t help to have to go without Christian today,” Ferris said. “Hopefully, we can put it all together this week at the District tournament in Alexander City (Alabama). It’s a little further to travel than Bloomington the last two years,, but the weather should be warmer down south.”
