ROBINSON - The John A. Logan College volleyball team fell behind 5-0 in the opening set at Lincoln Trail Wednesday, but rallied to win the set, 25-19, en route to a straight-set victory.

The Vols had an easier time of it in the second and third sets, winning each by the score of 25-10.

Sophomore rightside hitter Chynna Byars led Logan in kills with seven.

Freshman Annie Wehrheim of Woodlawn followed with six while adding five service aces and six digs.

Sophomore Christy Hayden of Benton was tops in assists with 14. Freshman Caroline Rogers contributed 12.

Sophomore Carly Callahan of Carterville led in digs with 15 and added three kills. Freshman libero Ali Amici recorded 10 digs.

Sophomore Kierra Nolan of Murphysboro chipped in a team-high five blocks and four kills.

"I thought we were playing tentatively for whatever reason at the start of the match, but finally started to get in rhythm about midway through the first set," said Logan head coach Bill Burnside.

"I thought Chynna and Kierra played partucularly well at the net."

The Vols improve to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. The Statesmen are 0-1 in the league and 1-1 overall.

Logan returns to action at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday at home against defending league champion, Lake Land.
