CARTERVILLE – An outside hitter from Perryville, Mo. is the newest recruit to sign a letter of intent to play volleyball at John A. Logan College next fall.

Ahnie Hoff is a 5-foot-8 senior with many accolades to her credit. She was named Player of the Year in her conference; All-Region; All-District; and was chosen to the All-Southeast Missouri team.

A multi-sport athlete, who also excelled in basketball, softball, and gymnastics, Hoff said she chose Logan because “it is close to home and seemed to be a perfect fit.”

Hoff describes herself as “an aggressive hitter who tries to put the ball away quick.”

Hoff said she has added motivation to success at the college level in volleyball. Her older sister, Jordan, fell short of playing college ball.

“I want to continue my career, in part, for her,” Hoff said. “She inspired me to play the game.”

Vols head coach Bill Burnside said he is pleased to sign the Missouri product.

“Ahnie should be a very solid addition to our team,” he said. “In our system, outside hitters have to be quality all-around players. And these players are getting harder and harder to find as our sport gets increasingly specialized.

“Ahnie has the potential to contribute with quality passing, defense, and consistent hitting,” Burnside said. “We are losing a quality all-around player in (graduating sophomore) Carly Callahan from Carterville, so Ahnie will be one of the girls with an opportunity to step into that critical role.”

Burnside pointed out that Perryville is a volleyball-crazy town.

“We have had several players from there over the years, and all of them grow up playing the sport from a young age,” he said. “They also get a lot of support and encouragement from the town, so they end up being very focused and dedicated players. It makes them mentally prepared to play the game at the collegiate level. We are very fortunate to get Ahnie and to maintain our relationship with Perryville.”
