CARTERVILLE – The Carbondale duo of McKena Miller and Kaili Bacon combined for 47 points Wednesday to lead the John A. Logan College women’s basketball team to a resounding 97-69 home win over Lindenwood-Belleville’s junior varsity squad.

Miller finished with a game-high 24 points. The sophomore was 10-of-17 from the field, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. She also yanked down eight rebounds, dished out three assists, and recorded three steals.

Bacon, a freshman, poured in 23 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor. She knocked down one triple in four attempts and hauled in nine rebounds.

Joining them in double figures were sophomore Haley Darnell (Goreville) with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and Tiaunna Watkins, who collected 12 points and a team-best 11 rebounds.

Gabby Sanders followed with nine points. Ariel Crump chipped in six. Sierra Frazier bagged a 3-pointer. Juwanna Walker flipped in two free throws and Ternaecia Ashley added one.

“I thought we were kind of dead there in the first half. We weren’t moving well on defense,” said JALC head coach Amanda Shelby. “We played much better in the second half. And I’ll take 47 points from Kaili and McKena anytime. The main thing tonight is that everyone got some playing time and our starters got some rest.”

As a team, the Vols made good on 37-of-87 shot attempts (43 percent) and 8-of-28 triples (29 percent). Logan also converted 15-of-22 free throws (68 percent).

The Vols led 46-33 at the intermission. They improve to 21-4 on the season and will play at Kaskaskia College in Centralia in a 1 p.m. game Saturday.
