WADLEY, ALA. - The John A. Logan College baseball team bounced back from its first loss of the season Friday to knock off a national powerhouse in Spartanburg Methodist, South Carolina, 15-9, on Saturday afternoon.
Pacing the Vols' offense was sophomore third baseman Doug Parks, who homered, doubled, and drove in four runs. Parks was a finalist for National Player of the Week honors this past week.
Sophomore shortstop Tyler Robertson had a hit, two walks, and scored two runs.
Earning the win in relief was sophomore righthander Gabe Jelley, a Zeigler-Royalton grad.
"For the most part, it was a pitching optional game," said Logan head coach Jerry Halstead. "We gave up 14 walks and still won. That doesn't happen very often. We were fortunate to have three big innings, which was enough to overcome our pitching. Our offense really came through today against a very good team."
Logan concludes play in Alabama this afternoon with a match against Dyersburg, Tenn.
