SCOTTSBORO, ALA. – The John A. Logan College men’s golf team got off to a fair start Thursday in the first day of a three-day junior college tournament at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro, Ala.

The Vols stand third out of nine teams with an opening-round score of 311. Copiah-Lincoln College of Mississippi leads the competition with a 301.

Top individual performer for Logan Thursday was Kody Rendleman of Murphysboro. The sophomore turned in an 18-hole score of 76. Fellow sophomore, Austin Grote, of Hoyleton was one stroke back at 77.

Freshman Nick Woolard carded a 78. Freshman Hunter York checked in with an 80 and sophomore Neal Northcott of Carmi finished with an 81.

“We still have not played to our capability, but we are hopeful that the good weather and ability to practice during Spring Break this week will get us ready for the rest of the season,” said Vols head coach Tom Ferris. “
