CARBONDALE - Freshman Marshall Gilbert and sophomore Tyler Robertson stroked four hits each Monday to lead the John A. Logan College baseball team to a 10-7 non-conference win over Jefferson, Mo. at SIU-Carbondale.

With the victory, the Volunteers improve to 26-6 overall. 

Logan scored two runs in the first inning; one in the third; two in the fourth; two in the fifth; one in the sixth; and two in the seventh.

Gilbert had two doubles and drove in three. Robertson scored three runs and drove in a pair. Logan Kaletha had a double and two runs scored. Doug Parks, Tyler Horchem, Jeff Hahs, Colin Butkiewicz, and Lucas Larson all added singles.

Freshman Noah Thornburg of Carbondale got the start for the Vols. He worked five innings and allowed all seven runs (six earned) on seven hits. He also struck out two and walked one.

Another freshman, Patrick McBride, was stellar, recording four shutout innings to pick up the win. He allowed but two hits, struck out one, and walked none.

The Vols resume Great Rivers Athletic Conference play at 3 p.m. Thursday with a single game against Lake Land in Carterville.
