CARTERVILLE – Faced with a shrinking budget, John A. Logan College veteran librarian Judy Vineyard has been unable to purchase any books since last fall.

“The Newberry and Caldecott are two children’s book awards, for example, that are given out every January,” Vineyard said. “This was the first year I couldn’t purchase them for our collection.”

After learning of the situation, instructors within the English Department (Katie Carl, Matt Garrison, Cheri Barrall, Nikki Borrenpohl, David Evans and Robyn Stevens) stepped up and purchased the books for her.

“They had a plate placed in the front of the books noting that they were given in celebration of me as I am retiring,” Vineyard said. “I thought that was really nice.”
