Logan Softballers Split with Three Rivers

POPLAR BLUFF, MO. - The John A. Logan College softball team split a twin bill at Three Rivers, Mo. Wednesday, dropping the opener, 7-2, and then bounced back to take the nightcap, 9-1, in five innings.
Freshman Sydnee Rushing was pitcher of record for the Vols in the opener. She allowed all seven runs on 10 hits in six innings of work, while striking out six and walking one.
Logan scored one run in the fourth on a solo homer by sophomore Kiley Pelker. The Vols added a second run in the seventh on a solo blast from freshman Megan Hampton.
Kelsey Rogers, Lauren Talton and Pelker each collected two hits. Katrina Whitley, Jennifer Bailey, Brooke Arnold and Hampton accounted for one apiece.
In Game 2, Pelker continued her torrid hitting, blasting yet another home run and driving in four. She finished 2-4.
Freshman Jordyn Smith went 3-3 with two runs scored. Whitley, a sophomore from Du Quoin, had two hits, including a two-run homer.
Talton, a freshman, also notched two hits, including a two-run homer. Bailey, Arnold and Hampton added one hit each.
Winning pitcher was Arnold. She allowed one run on seven hits, struck out three, and walked two.
Logan scored four runs in the second inning highlighted by Pelker and Whitley's roundtrippers. The Vols added five in the fourth highlighted by Talton's blast.
Logan now stands 25-11 and will play host to Olney in a doubleheader beginning at 2 today.
