MARION – Black Diamond Harley-Davidson is teaming up with the John A. Logan College Foundation to raise money for scholarships.

The scholarships will be awarded to students attending JALC this fall semester.  The two-night summer concert event kicks off Friday, June 17th with .38 special and on Saturday, June 18th Hank Williams Jr. brings his “It’s about time tour” to the Black Diamond Stage.

Several other opening performances will be announced in the coming weeks.  Tickets are on sale now.

Foundation Executive Director Staci Shafer says the number of students applying for scholarships is on the increase.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to raise money for scholarships because the need is significant,” she said.

The JALC Foundation awards more than 600 scholarships each year, totaling nearly $800,000, but Shafer says the need for new scholarships is greater than ever before.  Over 65 percent of students enrolled in classes at the school rely on financial assistance to pursue their education.

“We are so grateful to Black Diamond Harley Davidson for their generosity. They are always looking for ways to support the local community and we just can’t thank them enough,” Shafer said.

Black Diamond Harley Davidson’s Shad Zimbro says they are happy to help out.

“It’s tough out there right now with the issues we are facing in the state with funding. It’s a difficult time to be a college student, and if we can help someone get an education, then we are absolutely happy to do that.”

For businesses looking to be a part of this weekend event, there are sponsorships available. For premier seating, a limited number of sponsor boxes are being sold.
