MATTOON – The John A. Logan College softball team dropped a pair of games at Lake Land College in Mattoon Saturday, 7-2, and 12-0 in five innings.

In the opener, Sydnee Rushing was pitcher of record for the Vols. She hurled six innings, allowed six runs on nine hits, struck out four, and walked four.

Logan scored its two runs in the fifth inning on back-to-back solo homers by sophomores Kiley Pelker and Kelsey Rogers.

Pelker led the offense with two hits in four at bats. Rogers, Jordyn Smith, and Katrina Whitley all collected one hit.

In Game 2, freshman Grace Vaughn started and earned the loss. She went three innings, allowed 10 runs on seven hits, and walked four with one strikeout. Another freshman, Taylor Foy, tossed the final two frames and gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk.

Katie Sandusky was the lone bright spot offensively, totaling two hits.

Vols head coach Angie Jilek revealed that sophomore pitcher/first baseman Jennifer Bailey, along with freshman outfielder Kiarha Wilce, freshman first baseman Madison Rapien, and sophomore catcher Briah Winchester are all out for the remainder of the season with injuries.

The Vols travel to Olney today in an afternoon doubleheader.
