NORMAL - The John A. Logan College women's golf team holds a seven-stroke lead over arch rival, Rend Lake, after one round of the Region 24 tournament held Sunday at Weibring Golf Club in Normal. The second and final round is set for Monday.
The Volunteers posted an opening score of 362 as compared to Rend Lake's 369. Kaskaskia is a distant third at 408. Only the top team advances to the national tournament in Dayton Beach, Fla. next month.
Tops among individual performers for Logan Sunday was freshman Madison Bushue of Effingham with a round of 89. Sophomores Adrian Brown of Carterville and Reagan Keepes of Mount Carmel follow at 90. Sophomore Payton Choate (Trico High School grad) checked in at 93 and freshman Mariah Bushue of Effingham contributed a 95.
JALC head coach Bill Glenn said that while pleased to be leading the tournament, he feels his team is capable of posting a much lower score and hopes to see that happen on Monday.
"I expect my sophomores to play much better tomorrow," he said.
