CARTERVILLE – The John A. Logan College baseball team moved up four spots in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings this week from 13th to ninth. And that escalation does not even figure in this week’s four wins over Olney and Three Rivers, Mo.

The Volunteers presently stand 43-9 overall. That’s the most wins since the 44 posted in 2006. The school record is 56 wins in 1992.

Logan won the Great Rivers Athletic Conference championship this spring with a record of 24-3. It marks the second straight year the Vols have won the league title and 12th title overall for JALC head coach Jerry Halstead.

Logan will now host the Region 24 postseason tournament. The quarterfinals get under way Saturday as the Vols play host to Lake Land in a best-of-three series. The winner advances to the semifinal round in Carterville May 13-15.
