CARTERVILLE – The John A. Logan College men’s golf team has added a standout performer from Missouri for this coming school year.

Brian Whitson of Advance was runner up to the state champion as a high school senior. He previously won the regional and sectional tournaments in order to qualify for State.

“Coming to Logan will give me a chance to be a better person, both on and off the golf course,” Whitson said. “I’m excited about the upcoming school year and consider it a chance to take my game to a higher level.”

Whitson averaged 73.2 strokes per 18 holes as a senior.

“Actually, I thought I was going to go to college for baseball at one point, but then I started excelling in golf and saw that my future was there,” Whitson said.

JALC head coach Tom Ferris was pleased to announce the signing.

“I feel quite fortunate that we were able to land a young man the caliber of Brian,” Ferris said. “He has demonstrated good ball-striking ability, and like everyone else, just needs to refine his skills somewhat. I expect him to make an impact with our program as a freshman.”
