CARTERVILLE – A second John A. Logan College graduated sophomore has committed to play golf this fall at Tennessee State University in Nashville.

Austin Grote of Hoyleton recently accepted a scholarship offer to play at the Division I school. He joins fellow graduated sophomore, Kody Rendleman, of Murphysboro.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity to play DI golf,” Grote said. “I’m also excited to be a part of a growing and positive environment that TSU has to offer.”

Grote said he is grateful for his Logan experience.

“I learned a lot these last two years and it really allowed me the time to mature, and hopefully, be even more prepared to compete at a four-year school.”

Grote averaged a 76 per 18 holes in his two years with the Vols. That included a top five finish in the Tennessee State Invitational this past season.

“Austin has a very good short game. He is a hard worker with a great golf swing and an excellent student. I believe he will only get better at Tennessee State,” said Vols head coach Tom Ferris.
