Behind the booming kills of Annie Wehrheim the John A. Logan volleyball team defeated top seeded Lake Land 3-1 to claim the Region 24 title and a berth in next week’s District tournament in Missouri.

Logan lost the first game to Lake Land 15-25 but roared back to take the next three games, 25-20, 25-14 and 25-13. Wehrheim was deadly at the net with a match high 18 kills.

“We came out a little flat in the first game, but we settled down and played well the next three games,” said Logan coach Bill Burnside. “We had a great crowd that helped give us energy.”

Ahnie Hoff had 8 kills while Jamie Hammond had 7 kills and 4 blocks. Caroline Rogers had back to back service aces to help the Vols claim the third game.

The championship was Logan’s first since 2011. Up next will be a one match showdown against either Jefferson County or Mineral Area. The winner of that match advances to NJCAA national finals in Wyoming.
