MATTOON – The John A. Logan College men’s basketball team jumped to an early 11-0 lead and led all the way to defeat Lake Land, 87-74.

The Volunteers, who played without leading scorer Michael Tucker who was ill, were led by Rashaun Richardson with 20 points while Jalen Perry had 16 and Emile Lewis scored 10. The Vols, 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, were up 40-28 at the half and led by as many as many as 30 points in the second half. Lake Land falls to 1-5 and 0-1.

“I thought we played a good game and it was good to see a lot of players contribute when Tucker couldn’t play,” said Logan head coach Kyle Smithpeters. “Richardson had the type of night we’ve been waiting for and Lewis will open some eyes when he is fully recovered from a hamstring injury.”
