CARTERVILLE -- Playing two nationally ranked opponents in four days was no problem for the John A. Logan men’s basketball team. After beating second ranked Vincennes on Saturday the Volunteers defeated No. 21 Three Rivers, 85-78, on Tuesday night.

Jalen Perry again led the way with 27 points as the Vols built up a 16-point lead late in the game only to have the Raiders pull within two twice before Allen Billinger sealed the game by hitting 6-of-7 free throws in the final 90 seconds. Billinger had 14 points for Logan while Will Robinson and Jerome Davis each added 12.

Three Rivers was led by Gabe Grant’s 21 points, including hitting 11-of-12 free throws. He keyed a 15-0 run in the final six minutes to keep the Raiders in the game.

“I thought our team had real grit to hold off a talented team like Three Rivers,” said Logan head coach Kyle Smithpeters. “To play teams like Vincennes and Three Rivers back-to -back in four days was amazing and to win both games was a testimony to our player’s grit.”
