Logan Women’s Season Ends in District 16 Semis

INA – Wabash Valley came from behind to defeat John A. Logan, 68-60, in the semi-finals of the District tournament at Rend Lake College.
Logan came close to pulling the big upset, but the Warriors, 30-1 and ranked 13th nationally, took control in the final minute. After leading 33-26 at the half, the Vols expanded the lead to 11 at 46-35, but the battle tested Warriors went on a 14-0 run to lead 51-48 after three quarters. Again Logan took control in the final quarter and led 60-55 before Wabash closed the game out with a 13-0 run.
“We had our chances and I really thought we were going to win,” said Logan coach Amanda Shelby. “They did all the things they needed to do to seal the win and they did.”
The loss ended the season for the Lady Vols, 16-13, who were led by freshman Destiny Cozart with 16 points. Another freshman, Miriah Donelson, had 14 points while Tiaunna Watkins added 12.
The Warriors who will play Saturday night for the tournament title and a berth in the national tournament were led by Lauren Carroll with 22 points.
