CARTERVILLE – John A. Logan College men’s basketball coach Kyle Smithpeters said Monday that he is “excited” to have signed Georgia prep star, Michael Tucker, a 6-foot-7, 225-pound shooting forward.

“Michael has a toughness about him and is very versatile,” Smithpeters said. “He can play both inside the post or out on the wing. And he will certainly present some match-up problems for opposing defenses.”

Tucker first attended Alcovy High School in Covington, Ga. He was then set to play at a military prep academy, but tore the ACL in his left knee during a college recruitment visit and had to sit out the entire 2013-14 season.

He returned to action last year at the Georgia Prep Sports Academy in Atlanta, where he averaged 14 points and six rebounds a game. Tucker has four years of college eligibility remaining, including two at Logan.

“We’re looking forward to having Michael on campus,” Smithpeters said. “He’s a good kid with a great upside. I really like his ability to rebound the basketball. He was recruited by some SEC, Big 12 and Atlantic 10 schools (Georgia, Auburn, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Virginia Commonwealth), as well as Bradley from the Missouri Valley. We think he can make us better. He’s both long and athletic.”

Tucker said he is ready to perform at the next level.

“It’s always been my dream to play college basketball,” he said. “I would describe myself as an all-around player. It doesn’t matter to me whether I play inside or out. I just want to play.”

Tucker plans to major in physical education after completing his general requirements.
