CARTERVILLE – Sophomore guard Devontavius Payne has been named Great Rivers Athletic Conference and Region 24 Player of the Year for his accomplishments this season.

The 2014 Carbondale High School grad averaged 21.4 points per game, which ranked him No. 13 in the nation. He finished with 622 points scored; shot 53 percent from the field overall; and 39 percent from beyond the three-point arc. Payne made good on 80 percent of his free-throw attempts.

Moreover, Payne averaged 3.8 rebounds and two assists per game. He was instrumental in leading the Volunteers to a 24-8 overall record and second-place finish in the nine-team conference.
