LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – John A. Logan College sophomore basketball standout Devontavius Payne scored 15 points at an All-Star Game for junior college All-Americans this past Saturday in Las Vegas.
A Carbondale High School grad, Payne is the second Logan player in as many years asked to participate in the game. Last year, Martavian Payne competed.
“In typical Devon fashion, he was very efficient, only missed a couple of shots,” said Vols head coach Kyle Smithpeters. “All-Star games are a lot about having fun, but Devon took it seriously and did some great things. It was good to see him play one more time in a Logan uniform.”
Payne was a Second Team All-American for the Vols after averaging 22 points a game this past season.
“I guess we need to find another guy by the name of Payne,” Smithpeters said. “The last couple we’ve had have been pretty good. No doubt Devon will be missed. He should be a great asset for East Tennessee State University the next two years.”
