CARTERVILLE – Jalen Perry scored 24 points to lead John A. Logan to an 80-73 upset of the previously unbeaten (10-0) and nationally ranked No. 2 Vincennes Trailblazers.

Logan trailed early but went on a 12-0 run to go up 20-11 and never trailed again.  The Volunteers suffocating man-to-man defense held Vincennes to only 27 first-half points and went in at halftime with a lead of 36-27.

Vincennes came out strong to start the second half and got to within five at 37-32, but the Volunteers didn’t fold and went on a 10-0 run to go up 49-36. Down the stretch, Vincennes twice pulled within four points behind the scoring Chris Darlington who had 23 points, but could never get closer.

Perry helped the Vols maintain the lead with big shots down the stretch, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Chad Galbreath had 17 points for the Vols while Allen Billinger and Jerome Davis each chipped in 11.

“It was a great win for us,” said Logan head coach Kyle Smithpeters. “I was proud that our guys continually kept us in the lead while playing against one of the best teams in the country.”

Logan (7-4) will get right back in the frying pan, hosting nationally ranked Three Rivers on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
