CARTERVILLE — It’s been an amazing year for John A. Logan College sports.

And it just got better.

JALC Athletic Director Greg Starrick announced today that the College’s Athletic Department has been awarded the Great Rivers Athletic Conference (GRAC) All-Sports Trophy.

“Our athletic teams have had so much success this year, we’ve been so proud of their accomplishments,” Starrick said. “And I can’t say enough for our coaches, what they’ve accomplished and how they continue to rise to the occasion — no matter what obstacles they may face — to bring about winning athletes both on and off the court and playing fields.”

Five sports (volleyball, women’s and men’s basketball, softball, and baseball) are awarded point values based on how the team finished within the league. Golf is not a conference sport since not enough schools in the league participate, but if it was, Logan also excelled at golf taking both the men’s and women’s teams to the national tournament.

“It’s truly been an amazing year for Logan athletics,” Starrick said.

Along with winning, Logan has also seen a number of players receive scholarships to four-year schools due to their performances at JALC.

“To see volleyball players move on to play Division I, our softball team set a record for most wins, the success of our baseball and basketball teams, what a feeling it is now to win this All-Sports trophy,” Starrick said. “At a time of funding difficulties due to the state’s budget crisis, I can’t praise the efforts of our coaches and our players enough.”
