CARTERVILLE – Are you ready for some basketball? If so, John A. Logan College has a deal for you.

The Volunteers are hosting the second annual Midwest Jamboree on Sunday with some of the top junior college basketball teams in the nation competing at the SIU Recreation Center.

There will be 12 top junior college teams and each team will play three games.  Three courts will be utilized with three games going on at all times, beginning at 12-noon.

All of the teams who were in the field a year ago will return and two more have been added, including highly touted Moberly College from Missouri and Vincennes from Indiana. Returning teams are 3 Rivers, West Plains, State Fair and Mineral Area from Missouri; Southwest Tennessee from Tennessee and Wabash Valley, Olney, Shawnee, Lake Land and John A. Logan from Illinois.

The event will attract nearly 100 Division I scouts.

“We are excited about the Jamboree and we are looking forward to some outstanding competition,” said Logan coach and Jamboree director Kyle Smithpeters. “We were fortunate to go 3-0 at a Jamboree in Vincennes, Ind., last week and we will face much tougher competition on Sunday.”

The Volunteers will play Southwest Tennessee on Court 1 at 1 p.m., Moberly on Court 2 at 3 p.m., and Mineral Area at 5 p.m. on Court 2.

The public is invited to attend the full afternoon of basketball at the SIU Rec Center. Admission is $5 for adults with children ages 12 and under admitted free.
