May 29, 2019
The John A. Logan College Art Department recently recognized students for their outstanding work during the 2018-19 academic year at the annual art reception. Students receiving recognition included: Samantha Ronketto, Best of Show; Cory Melvin, First Place; Alix Johnson, Second Place; and Audrey May Garrigus, Third Place. Haleigh Farber, Jared Odum, Elizabeth Mitbo, Eddine Dalton received Honorable Mentions.
In addition to the College’s Art award Samantha Ronketto also received two awards in the SIC Intercollegiate Art show. The show included students from Rend Lake College, South Eastern Illinois College, Shawnee Community College and John A. Logan College. Ronketto won second place overall for one of her drawings and honorable mention for a second drawing. Both drawings were projects that Ronketto completed for art classes taught by instructor Steven Constantine.
Ronketto feels she has grown as an artist because of the art instruction at John A. Logan College.
“We get a lot of great opportunities and a lot of feedback,” said Ronketto. “The smaller classrooms let it be more personable and that really helped me.”
Art Instructor Steven Constantine had high praise for his prize student.
“She is a remarkable student. She is hard working and has a remarkable eye,” said Constantine. “I expect her to do great things as she finishes her education and beyond.”
John A. Logan College offers a variety of art classes each semester including classes in drawing, photography, ceramics and computer art. Registration for summer and fall classes is currently underway and summer classes begin June 10.
