Summer semester classes at John A. Logan College begin on Monday, June 7, and late walk-in registration starts on June 3. Students that have not yet registered for the summer semester can meet with an advisor on a first-come-first-serve basis from June 3 through June 8. Students interested in the fall semester only will need to make an appointment. Advisement staff has recently relocated back to their permanent offices in C204.
According to Director of Advisement Stacy Holloway, the advisement staff is on-site and ready to assist students with the registration process.
“After being relocated to temporary offices for the majority of the academic year, our advisors are again located in the advisement office (C204) and ready to assist students in-person,” said Holloway.
John A. Logan College has followed the Governor’s mitigation plan throughout the pandemic, and since May 17, staff has been on-site and no longer working remotely. In addition, the Governor recently announced that on June 11, Illinois would enter phase 5 of the mitigation plan. Under Phase 5, there are no capacity limits on businesses. As a result, the economy will be fully reopened, and large gatherings of all sizes can return — though people will still be expected to wear masks and follow other safety precautions when appropriate.
John A. Logan College continues to follow cleaning and distance protocols but no longer requires masks for students and staff that are fully vaccinated.
College President Dr. Kirk Overstreet recently stated that because of the faculty and staff’s efforts to prepare for the moment the state entered Phase 5, the College is ready to welcome students back to campus.
“Our faculty and staff are eager to see more students on campus, and we have been preparing for their return,” said Overstreet. “We recently held a vaccination clinic for our staff, and we encourage everyone to get vaccinated. This is just one example of the steps we have taken to have our campus ready for the start of the fall semester, and we will continue to do our part to ensure that happens.”
Traditionally, most summer classes at John A. Logan College are taught under the online format, which will remain the case for Summer 2021.
According to Provost Dr. Melanie Pecord, fall semester classes will be back to the standard mix of face-to-face and online courses with additional evening classes to assist working adults.
“We recognize that online classes are not a fit for everyone, and we want to make sure that working adults that cannot attend day classes and prefer the face-to-face modality have an option,” said Pecord.
