Associate in Applied Science
The CIS (Computer Information Systems) degree at John A. Logan College prepares students for a variety of options in information technology. This degree is for students who want to work in a computer environment and work with computer applications as well as administer a network. Students will learn important concepts about operating systems while applying skills and knowledge to support computers in a business environment or an IT position. The CIS degree concentrates on computer applications and networking rather than business office practices. Firewalls and VPNs will also be addressed through National Institute Standards and Technology guidelines used by businesses and information technology professionals. MOS certifications can be obtained with this degree.
For students who wish to transfer to SIU, this degree will capstone to the Information Systems Technologies and Healthcare Management degree.
Computer and information systems managers plan, coordinate, and direct computer-related activities in an organization. Most computer and information systems managers work full-time, some work part-time, and they help determine the information technology goals of an organization and are responsible for implementing computer systems to meet those goals.
