Emergency Medical Services

Certificate of Achievement

Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the Illinois Department of Public Health, EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P) licensing exam which is required for paramedic licensure in the state of Illinois. Licensed paramedics have employment opportunities in hospitals, ambulance services, fire departments, colleges, and within various governmental programs.

Current Illinois EMT-Basic (EMT-B) or EMT-Intermediate (EMT-I) certification is required.

What You Can Do

Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics assess injuries, and illnesses, provide emergency medical care, and may transport patients to medical facilities. All states require EMTs and paramedics to be licensed in the state in which they work; requirements will vary by state.

Students must complete EMT 111–Emergency Medical Technician I prior to entering the EMS program.

Current Illinois EMT-Basic (EMT-B) or EMT-Intermediate (EMT-I) certification is required.

The John A Logan College Paramedic program has received a Letter of Review
by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency
Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT’s Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
