Fundamental Facilities Operations:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and key concepts of facility management, including the importance of preventive maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Maintenance and Repair Skills:

  • Apply basic troubleshooting techniques and perform routine maintenance tasks on common building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Utilize standard tools and equipment safely and effectively.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Identify and adhere to safety protocols and industry regulations (e.g., OSHA standards, local building codes) to maintain a secure environment for occupants and staff.
  • Recognize potential hazards and implement preventive measures.

Use of Facility Management Tools:

  • Operate facility management software or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to log work orders, schedule maintenance, and track asset performance.
  • Interpret basic facility schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.

Communication and Teamwork:

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills when interacting with team members, supervisors, and external service providers.
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to address facility-related issues.

Problem-Solving and Decision Making:

  • Employ critical thinking to diagnose common facility problems and propose viable, cost-effective solutions.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently during routine operations and unexpected emergencies.

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency:

  • Implement simple strategies to reduce energy consumption and support environmental sustainability.
  • Understand basic principles of energy management and sustainable practices that contribute to the efficient operation of a facility.
