Assistant Director of Institutional Research

Description:

The Assistant Director of Institutional Research position plays a crucial role as the key person for completing all state and federal reporting requirements for John A. Logan College. This includes, but is not limited to: creating, maintaining, and staying up-to-date on changes to reporting requirements for state and federal agencies; creating data reports and/or dashboards to assist with the interpretation of the data by various stakeholders at the college; and providing actionable insights to support the institution’s strategic plan.

Education & Experience Requirements
Education required: Bachelor’s degree in related field (Computer Science; Management of Information Systems; Business Management/Administration; Mathematics; or Statistics)
Experience required: Five years’ experience in data management/data analysis, statistical modeling, and data visualization techniques; demonstrated ability to interpret and present data; understanding of programming languages such as SQL, R, or similar for data manipulation and analysis; familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar software; strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail; experience working in a higher education or institutional research environment is desirable; and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Essential Functions & Position Duties

  • Subject matter expert in the collection of institutional research data for the purpose of producing reports to fulfill both state and federal requirements
  • Collect institutional research data and regional demographic data in order to perform internal studies and produce reports as requested by the College administration, faculty, staff, students, and the community at large
  • Develop methods and programs for obtaining data elements from the ERP system and presenting various data elements via the department webpage, intranet, and Teams site
  • Assist in maintaining the Institutional Effectiveness & Research webpage and Teams site
  • Maintain strong communication skills in order to act as a liaison with both state and federal agencies and work effectively with a diverse College faculty and staff composed of people with varying levels of education
  • Provide support in the application and/or reporting requirements for College grants, Higher Learning Commission reports, and ICCB program review
  • Assist in determining the appropriate allocation of institutional funds in the overall budgeting function
  • Reporting and Visualization: Design and generate regular and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to communicate key performance indicators and metrics
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Actively contribute to developing data governance policies, data standards, and data-driven decision-making practices within John A. Logan College

Non-Essential functions of the position

  • Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on John A. Logan College campus or designated location.
